Nettle

Nettle plant is a perennial herb that is grown almost everywhere in the world. Nettle can be used as an ingredient in food, where it is cooked just like other green vegetables. It is also valued for its medicinal purposes, as well as a raw material for paper and textiles production.

There are a lot of varieties of nettle, but the most popular is the stinging nettles. They are called as such because the plant is covered with tiny hairs that can cause a stinging pain, as well as redness and irritation. The treatment for sting nettles is not necessary because the irritation will subside after sometime. Even though it is notorious for its stinging characteristics, nettle is still effective in the treatment of a lot of ailments. The uses of stinging nettle are many, from culinary to medicinal.

A lot of studies have been done to document the positive effects of nettle for treating allergic rhinitis. It has also long been used to temporarily relieve pain caused by rheumatism. The nettle leaf can also be used as a stinging nettles warts cure. There is a stinging nettle cream that can be used for insect bites, joint pains and strains. Nettle extracts are also effective in curing anemia, eczema, gout and kidney problems. A lot of research has been done about the effectiveness of nettle root in treating benign prostatic hyperplacia. The results were promising and nettle has been proven valuable in relieving the symptoms caused by this disease even when used with other herbs.

Nettle can be taken in different forms. Aside from the creams that were mentioned a while ago, it can be drunk as a tea or as a capsule supplement. A nettle tea can be made out of the dried and crushed nettle leaf. The benefits of nettle tea are just the same as other forms but this is specifically favored, especially in treating urinary problems. There is a nettle tea recipe that can be followed to add a little spice to the traditional preparation. But you have to be careful because nettle tea allergic reaction is known to occur. If you’re a person that doesn’t really like the taste of tea, there are nettle tea capsules that you can use instead.

Nettles are very useful plants but there are some people who have some allergic reaction to nettle. So be sure to consult your physician before taking nettle.
